TRAVELLING TO LION SANDS GAME RESERVE

There are a number of convenient options when it comes to Travelling to Lion Sands Game Reserve.

  • Daily scheduled flights between Cape Town, Johannesburg and Skukuza Airport operated by Airlink. Definitely the quickest and most efficient solution!
  • An easy 5 hour drive from Johanneburg. Road transfers are also available. This is a good option should you wish to take in the scenery of the breathtaking Mpumlanga region.
  • The scheduled Safari Link charter connects the Sabi Sand Reserve with Madikwe Game Reserve, Welgevonden and Marataba Game Reserve. This is perfect for those who wish to explore the different MORE Hotels & Lodges within the same itinerary.
  • Private charter flights from any location directly into Lion Sands. For the client with a bigger budget, private charter flights are a great way to travel between destinations without having to abide by airport and scheduled flight particularities.

THE BEST TIME TO TRAVEL TO LION SANDS

An all-year-round safari destination where the variation in experience is temperature-related rather than safari-related as we do not have any migratory species. The best bird-watching period is from October to April.

WEATHER AT LION SANDS GAME RESERVE The average mean rainfall for the year is 350mm, with most rainfall occurring during mid-summer (November – February). The rainfall generally occurs in the form of thunderstorms where a downpour is experienced, very seldom lasting longer than a few hours. The mean average maximum temperatures range from 24.5°C/76°F in July to 31.5°C/88.7°F in January with the mean monthly minimum occurring in July at a temperature of 8.5°C/47.5°F.

RATES AT LION SANDS

Rates include: Luxury accommodation, all meals, teas/coffees, selected local beverages, two game drives daily, game drive refreshments and snacks, specified safari activities. Laundry and mini bar (selected items) included at Ivory Lodge.

Rates exclude: Laundry (excepting Ivory Lodge), premium brand or imported beers, spirits, cellar wines and champagnes, mini bar (excepting Ivory Lodge), cigars and cigarettes, Skukuza airport transfers, gratuities, telephone, curio shop purchases, spa treatments, game reserve landing fees (airport departure tax), game reserve entrance/ conservation fee, and activities not included (golf, helicopter flights, treehouses, private safaris, cultural village experience, elephant interaction experience).
