A Night Under The Stars

“The Treehouses at Lion Sands Game Reserve are as wild as Mother Nature could wish… here are unobstructed bush views, sweet African air and walk-on appearances by some of the continent’s most impressive animals.” – Lisa Grainger, Condé Nast Traveller

A Million-Star Experience

Our Treehouses set you in the middle of big landscapes, globed by even bigger skies, their lights twinkling down to the horizon. Below, the stillness is punctuated by animals’ whistles, huffs, and growls… carried on the wind.

There are few such experiences left on earth that capture the romance of the untamed and untainted.

Arrive at sunset to a picnic, spend the dusk hours spotting wildlife out in the bush, and fall asleep counting shooting stars.

This is not simply a sleep out – this is an adventure with Africa, one-on-one.

What You Need to Know

Rest assured, each Lion Sands Treehouse has been securely constructed above the ground, where the animals remain at a safe and comfortable distance.

Your field guide will provide a full orientation before he departs, but is always on call via radio until he collects you the next morning, after sunrise and a good breakfast.

A night in a Treehouse is booked in conjunction with your lodge accommodation. You don’t check out of your suite – it’s still yours, ready for your return.

  • This experience is charged for at R3 950 per person sharing per night, over and above the lodge rate
  • You’ll pack a stay-over bag with the essentials, leaving the rest of your belongings safe back at the lodge

Chalkley Treehouse

Located at Lion Sands Sabi Sand, for guests of Ivory Lodge and River Lodge

The Original Hideout

The treehouse has been built on the site where our ancestor, Guy Aubrey Chalkley made camp in a centuries-old leadwood tree. Since, it has been taken to an altogether different level of comfort. But the absence of Wi-Fi and light by the soft glow of lanterns enhance a very real experience of Africa.

Opening On to Africa

Built beyond an outcrop of boulders, across a small drawbridge, Kingston is a couple or family’s private vantage over Africa, opening out in front of you. Sheltered by its wood and glass structure, you can savour this faraway experience in comfort – complete with feather beds and a hot shower.

At the River’s Edge

Tinyeleti (meaning ‘many stars’) is a dreamy escape between the heavens and earth for couples and families, alike. This location sees the passage of many animals, drawn to the water in the coolness of early evening and morning. Watch on from your bed, shower, or breakfast table…
